The major fields include tourism service management, international tour guides, etc. The Tourism Management Specialty boasts a special Tourism Practice Studio, and a simulated company operated by the students themselves — Hera Tourism Service Company. The specialty is distinctive in undergraduate teaching. It makes use of on-site practice teaching and global travel distribution system training, and is introducing network-based teaching programs, such as travel agency management information system and business travel management system. The Exchange Student Programs (3+1、4+1) of Tourism Management Specialty run in cooperation with University of Central Lancashire in UK provide the students with opportunities of international exchange. Based on Hera Tourism Service Company, the Tourism Management Specialty has initially formed characteristic professional practice mode. Several student scientific research interest groups are formed so that the students can join in the teachers' research work according to their interests, which has improved the students' scientific research ability, broadened their professional vision, and also enabled them to do well in various competitions. The students have won many awards, such as the Outstanding Award in National English Contest and the Third Prize in the Challenge Cup Chinese College Student Entrepreneurship Design Contest. The teachers and students also make active contributions to the development of local tourism economy, trying to become the decision-making consultation think tank of the tourism departments of Shanghai Municipal Government and Songjiang District Government.
The employment rate of the graduates is rather high. Moreover, many graduates tend to go abroad for further study, or continue their study in domestic universities. International Event Management Shanghai
International Event Management Shanghai (IEMS) is a joint program held by SIFT and Hochschule Osnabruck, University of Applied Sciences. The program aims to develop qualified managerial staff of modern management mindset and operational skills for international exhibition enterprises and relevant government departments.
IEMS has a total of 15 modules franchised from Hochschule Osnabrück. The teaching team consists of prestigious German professors and SIFT teachers, who jointly deliver all the franchised modules in English. The teaching style embodies advanced teaching methodology and practices, and focuses on developing practical capabilities of the students. The IEMS program owns a studio for internship and a student company--Wonder Fairs, which is owned, operated and managed by the students themselves. Besides classroom teaching, the IEMS program also capitalizes on its close links with the industry of event management to engage students in extensive fieldwork and internship.
Over the years, IEMS has won many awards, including the First Prize of Excellent Teaching Performance in Shanghai, the Award for Outstanding Sino-foreign Joint Education Program, and the Title of Successful Event Management Educator from China Research Association of Event Economics.
