The School of Accounting offers two bachelor's degree programs in accounting and auditing and a program in the concentration of the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). Among them, the accounting program is recognized candidate sponsored as a nationally top-rated undergraduate program, and the auditing program is a pilot application-oriented undergraduate program in shanghai City. the school is also home to 3 master’s degree programs in the second-tier academic discipline categories of accounting, financial management, and auditing, and a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) program. The School has an enrollment of more than 900 undergraduate students, more than 300 full-time graduate students, and over 200 part-time graduate students.
The accounting program started to enroll undergraduates in 1987. It was granted the CPA Australia exemptions in 2008 and was ratified as a “Distinctive AccountingProgramfor Undergraduate Education of Shanghai City” and a Key Program in Accounting of “Project 085” in 2010. The ACCA program was set up in 2010 and obtained the highest Platinum accreditation of ACCA in 2013. The auditing program started to enroll undergraduates in 2009 and was approved as a pilot application-oriented undergraduate program in shanghai City in 2018. The accounting program was recognized as a candidate sponsored to be a nationally top-rated program in 2019.
The School was authorized to set up master’s degree programs in accounting, auditing, and financial management in 2011, 2012, and 2013 respectively. TheMPAccprogram was approved in 2014. And there are two types of enrollments: full-time and part-time.
The School boasts a high-caliber and young faculty team consisting of more than 30 full-time members, over 90 % of who hold doctoral degrees and over 50% have senior professional titles, and whose average age is about 40 years old. One of our faculty has been elected into the international high-end accounting talent training project by the Ministry of Finance, one selected as Shuguang Scholar of Shanghai City, one asPujiang Talent, and three as Chenguang Scholars.
In the past five years, the faculty members have presided over 7 national academic projects and many other projects at the provincial, ministerial, department, or bureau levels. They have published more than 100 academic papers in English and Chinese in authoritative journals in China or other countries, such as Journal of Accounting Research (one of the world’s top journals), Economic Research Journal, Management World, Journal of Management Sciences in China, Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Research, the Journal of World Economy, and other Class II and Class III International Journals, and journals listed in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI).
In terms of undergraduate education, the School, having always adhered to the talent cultivation mode of “internationally-oriented, focusing on practice, and developing strong qualification” and the discipline development orientation of “emphasizing teamwork, keeping improving, and developing characteristics”, has continuously carried out teaching reform and innovation and formed our distinctive talent cultivation characteristics. Meanwhile, we have made great efforts to develop some quality courses, including one first-class undergraduate course in Shanghai City, three excellent courses at the Shanghai Municipal level, three model English-only courses for Shanghai universities, three key courses of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, three quality online courses of Shanghai City, and six excellent moral education courses of SUIBE. In addition, two achievements were awarded the first prize of Teaching Achievements of Shanghai City, and the School has four collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education on University-Industry Cooperation. Many of our students have won awards from projects at national, provincial, and ministerial levels, such as China College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the “Challenge Cup”, National English Competition for College Students (NECCS), and Shanghai Student Entrepreneurship Decision Simulation Competition.
The School has made fruitful achievements in the ACCA program. After becoming the sixth School in China having gained the Platinum Approved Learning Partner (ALP) accreditation from the ACCAheadquarters in 2013, the School has passed the accreditation for nine consecutive years. To date, many students have been awarded first place in a single subject nationally or globally, and four teachers have been honored as “National Outstanding ACCA Instructors”. The School has also integrated the ACCA curriculum into graduate education, enabling our graduate students to be exempted from the first nine courses of the ACCA examination. Most graduates of the ACCA concentration are currently working for the Top 4 international accounting firms, the top 8 accounting firms of China, large state-owned enterprises, banks, and multinational groups.
The MPAccprogram is the most competitive master’s program with the most outstanding cultivation advantages within SUIBE. With domestic and foreign resources integration, rigorous teaching management, teaching innovation, and the integration of scientific research and teaching, this program has formed its distinctive talent cultivation mode of “serving the local community-the collaboration of the industry, enterprises and the university-internationally-oriented and practice-oriented curriculum design, faculty allocation and mobile classroom”, having achieved good results in the cultivation of applied, compound, and high caliber accounting professionals. Several students won awards such as “Graduate Academic Forum in the Yangtze River Delta”, “National Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling”, “China College Students’ ‘Internet+’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition”, and “National English Competition for College Students”.
To better cultivate internationally-oriented accounting talent and provide a platform for our faculty and students to broaden their global vision, the School has established multi-layered cooperative ties with internationally famous business schools of the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), such as San Jose University, Pace University, Rutgers University, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and Edinburgh Napier University.
