Established in July 2008, the School of Event and Tourism offers two undergraduate programs: event management (Sino-German cooperation) and tourism management, an academic master’s degree program in tourism management, a Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) program, and a preparatory class for ethnic minority students. Focusing on cultivating highly qualified professionals and producing high-quality academic results, the School has played a leading and exemplary role in China and forged distinctive features in higher education of event and cultural tourism, academic research, and social services in the last dozen years.
For a long time, the School has been striving to explore and practice the mode of cultivating internationally and application-oriented talent for events and tourism. It has delivered many professionals to the industry. Employers have highly praised our graduates, and such indicators as the salary index for university graduates and the implementation rate of graduation destinations are among the highest in SUIBE. The faculty and students have won the first prize of the Shanghai Teaching Achievement Award, the global champion of MPI-IMEX-MCI Future Leaders Forum (FLF), and the Shanghai May Fourth Youth Medal (team). With highly international education, the School has developed forms of cooperation for talent cultivation with many foreign institutions, such as the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences in Germany and the University of Central Lancashire in the UK, and set up the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship, providing students with many opportunities for international exchange and learning.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), the School will meet the needs of major national strategies and serve regional economic and social development with further resource integration. It will also build a national first-class highland for talent cultivation in cultural tourism and event, an essential base for academic research in tourism, a base for public culture and art education of SUIBE, and a new type of internationally famous think tank.
