On the morning of May 14, the 2026 Conference on Foreign Affairs Work and Relevant Policy Briefing of SUIBE was held. Wang Rongming, President of SUIBE, and Lin Xiaoying, Director of the Passport and Visa Management Division of the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, attended the meeting. The meeting brought together responsible officials from the university's functional departments, heads of all schools and colleges, and foreign affairs administrative staff. The meeting was presided over by Jin Quan, Director of the SUIBE International Office.

In his speech, Wang Rongming comprehensively reviewed the remarkable achievements made by the university in 2025 in aspects such as the international cooperation network, AACSB international accreditation, overseas Confucius Institutes, international student education, and faculty and student overseas exchanges. He pointed out that high-level international exchange and cooperation are the inevitable choice for the university to achieve high-quality development, and also the only way to promote the university’s comprehensive reform. The university must adhere to the important strategy of internationalized education, and never slacken its efforts, never relent in its work, and never waver in its resolve.

Regarding the work of the next stage, Wang Rongming outlined six work requirements: First, it is necessary to raise political standing, focus on the “international” dimension to develop initiatives, and enhance the capacity to serve national strategies such as the construction of Shanghai’s “Five Centers.” Second, it is necessary to adhere to “the Party’s leadership over foreign affairs,” firmly hold the bottom line of security, strictly abide by foreign affairs work discipline, and effectively prevent and resolve foreign affairs risks. Third, it is necessary to benchmark against advanced universities, construct a key performance indicator system, and implement performance management and continuous improvement plans for internationalized education. Fourth, it is necessary to take the joint application for Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institutions as a gripper to comprehensively enhance the university’s international cooperation level. Fifth, it is necessary to offer more international summer schools, high-quality all-English-taught courses, and all-English master’s programs for international students. Sixth, it is necessary to build a strong internationalized faculty team, strengthen the foreign affairs work team, and improve the selection, cultivation and training mechanism for foreign affairs talent.
At the meeting, Lin Xiaoying gave a special briefing on passport and visa management, interpreting relevant work precautions, providing targeted policy guidance for faculty and students traveling abroad on official business. Jin Quan briefed attendees on the guiding principles of the recent Shanghai Foreign Affairs Work Conference. Staff members from the SUIBE International Office explained the principles in detail.
