Recently, the 23rd Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis East), hosted by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, kicked off in Hong Kong, China. As the world’s largest and most influential top-tier student competition in the field of international commercial arbitration, this event gathered 168 participating teams from 37 countries and regions over 350 arbitrators. The SUIBE Law School representative team stood out after five rounds of fierce competition in the preliminary and knockout stages. Ultimately, in this highly authoritative event recognized by the legal community, they successfully advanced from the preliminary rounds to the global elimination rounds for the first time, winning three major awards and successfully ranking among the global top 32 (Global Sixteenth Finalist in the Competition for Best Oral Team). They ranked first among universities from the Chinese mainland in the official scoring published by the event and received the certificate of honor for the “VIS MOOT Global Top 16 Knockout Round Best Oral Team”. Cao Wanting and Liu Ruyi, two Class-of-2023 undergraduates majoring in Law (International Economic Law direction), stood out from more than 300 debaters globally and both received Honorable Mentions for Best Individual Oral Advocate.
