On the morning of October 18, the Commemoration Conference for the 65th Anniversary of the Founding of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics and the Global Forum on Innovation and Development of Economy and Trade was grandly held. Leaders and guests from government departments, fellow universities and partner units, as well as former SUIBE leaders, alumni at home and abroad, and representatives of faculty, staff and students attended the event. The university received congratulatory letters from more than 40 fellow universities and partner units.

The commemoration conference officially started with the solemn national anthem. Qi Ming, Chairman of the University Council of SUIBE , presided over the conference.

He noted that the university has always centered its development on its distinctive focus on foreign, economic, and trade studies. Leveraging the strengths of its disciplines related to the open economy, the university actively contributes to China’s high-standard opening up and the development of Shanghai’s “five centers.” It has established a well-structured, distinctive, and integrated talent cultivation system covering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, and built a discipline framework featuring applied economics and statistics as the core, the open-economy discipline cluster as its defining feature, and interdisciplinary integration as a key driver. He said that standing at a new starting point on the occasion of its 65th anniversary, the university will fully implement the decisions and plans of the nation and Shanghai, take reform in talent cultivation as the core, deepen comprehensive reform across the board, and forge ahead with determination to write a new chapter of “contributing to building a strong country and making greater achievements as a university of economics and international business.”

Professor Zhao Zhongxiu, President of University of International Business and Economics, addressed on behalf of fellow universities, extending congratulations and best wishes. on the 65th anniversary of the founding of SUIBE. Ji Shengjun, Chairman of the Company Council and President of Oriental International (Group) Co., Ltd., spoke on behalf of the business community, offering his heartfelt congratulations on the university’s 65th anniversary. Wu Zhengping, an alumnus of the Class of 1985 of SUIBE, shared his memories of studying at his alma mater and expressed the hope that all alumni would stay closely connected with the university and continue to bring it pride and honor. Professor Huang Jianzhong spoke as a teacher representative, wishing the university a happy anniversary.




An appointment ceremony of the first council was held at the conference. Qi Ming and Wang Rongming respectively issued appointment letters to the council members, council consultants and honorary council members.

Mr. Zhou Hanmin, a distinguished SUIBE alumnus, spoke as the representative of honorary council members. He said his school years at SUIBE were the most precious time in his life, and he was willing to continue contributing to the university’s development. In conclusion, he expressed the hope that all members of the SUIBE community will carry forward the spirit embodied in the university motto and present themselves on the world stage with confidence and humility.

After the conference, the Global Forum on Innovation and Development of Economy and Trade was held. The forum consisted of a presidents’ forum and two sub-forums. Zhou Lei, Vice President of Fudan University; Xu Xuejun, Vice President of Tongji University; Li Yansong, President of Shanghai International Studies University; Cong Mingcai, President of Dalian University of Foreign Languages; and Zhu Hongjun, Secretary of the University Council and President of Anhui University of Finance and Economics, delivered keynote speeches at invitation. The forum was hosted by Wang Rongming.
