From November 5th to 12th, Qi Ming, chairman of the University Council of SUIBE, led a delegation to visit Australia and New Zealand upon invitation, where he successively met with representatives from RMIT University in Australia, Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand, and Macquarie University in Australia.
During the visit to RMIT University, the delegation met with Alec Cameron,President of RMIT University, Saskia Loer Hansen, Vice President for International Engagement, Sherman Young, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Colin Picker, Vice President and Head of the Business and Law Faculty, Mish Eastman, Vice President and Head of the Vocational Education Faculty, and Jake Heinrich, President of the Foundation Studies Program.
Qi Ming expressed his sincere gratitude to President Cameron and the university’s warm reception. He stated that RMIT University is an important strategic partner of SUIBE, and the nearly thirty years of cooperation between the two institutions have yielded fruitful results. He hopes that through joint efforts, the two universities could continue to strengthen the quality of their cooperative education programs. By initiatives such as advancing cooperative education levels, actively carrying out cross-disciplinary master’s degree programs, collaborating on international business school accreditation, encouraging international exchanges and cooperation among faculty and students, and jointly conducting faculty training and development programs, the two universities are expected to keep contributing to the cultivation of high-level international economic and trade talents, as well as to local economic development and friendly exchanges between China and Australia.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the Business and Law Faculty of RMIT University, where they held discussions with Colin Picker, Vice President, Mathews Nkhoma, Associate Vice President, and Kathy Douglas, Associate Vice President.
During the visit, the delegation also held talks with the head of RMIT University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Center and were invited to tour the university’s new Foundation Studies Center (RMIT UP) and the Educational Technology Laboratory.
During the visit to Macquarie University, the delegation met with Lee-Ann Norris, Vice President of Macquarie University, Stella Wang, Regional Director for Greater China, Stephanie Huang, Deputy Dean of the Business School, Babak Abedin, Head of the Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics Department, and Professor Zhuo Jin.
The two sides held in-depth exchanges, focusing on deepening strategic cooperation, promoting student exchanges, enhancing collaborative teaching and research among faculty members, advancing master’s cross-disciplinary training in actuarial studies, business analytics, and finance, as well as the initiation of joint doctoral student training programs.
During the visit to Otago Polytechnic, the delegation met with Gagan Sachdeva, the head of the International Campus and Kerrie Hodgson, the head of the International Office.
The two universities acknowledged their cooperation over the past more than a decade, shared their philosophies on international campus development, and further discussed enhancing student international mobility, joint international talent cultivation, and expanding teacher exchanges and cooperation.
During their visit to Australia, the delegation also met with the SUIBE alumni in Sydney to better understand the development of alumni representatives in Australia and to discuss matters related to the continuous optimization of talent cultivation quality and alumni development.
