Master Play Qiu Shaoheng Makes a Grand Return for the University’s 64th Anniversary

The master play Qiu Shaoheng was performed in Room 507 of the Information Building on the Songjiang Campus on October 11th, as a tribute to the 64th anniversary of SUIBE and the 40th anniversary of the SUIBE School of Law.

Professor Zhou Hanmin, a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), former Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association, former Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal CPPCC, Honorary Dean of the School of Law, distinguished alumnus of SUIBE, and the first graduate student of Professor Qiu Shaoheng, Zhang Yiguo, Deputy Chairman of the University Council of SUIBE, and nearly 500 representatives of faculty and students, watched the performance.

Professor Qiu Shaoheng was a globally renowned jurist, who once served as the Honorary Dean of the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. With a reverse chronological narrative, the master play Qiu Shaoheng, beginning with Qius 1982 reunion with his old friend Professor He Lvting, vividly portrays his magnificent life that he has contributed to China as an educator. It recreates scenes of his participation in the Tokyo Trials and the drafting of Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and other significant historical events, telling the untold stories behind them.



Following the performance, Zhou was invited on stage to share his impressions of the master play with the audience. He expressed that the restaging of this play on the 64th birthday of his alma mater is a tribute to his mentor and the older generation of jurists. The scenes in the play deeply moved him. Zhou summarized the spirit of Qiu’s unwavering dedication to serving his country, rigorous scholarship, and modest humility, hoping all members of SUIBE to learn and carry forward the spirit of SUIBE masters represented by Qiu, and contribute to the development of the university and the construction of a powerful nation.
