First Translation of The Classic of Tea in Classical Chinese, Vernacular Chinese, English with Segmented Comparisons Published

On April 20th, the launch ceremony of the first translation of The Classic of Tea in classical Chinese, vernacular Chinese, and English with segmented comparisons, was held in SUIBE’s Gubei Campus. SUIBE president Wang Rongming, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Library Yang Chunhua, members of the International BilingualClassfor Tea Ceremony, and other people from all walks of life, joined the event.


Wang Rongming said in his speech that Shanghai is home to a long and profound culture and history of tea. As a university in Shanghai, SUIBE has been committed to building itself into a Chinese university with characteristics of Shanghai’s development, during which it has established deep bond with tea culture. The publication of the translation of The Classic of Tea will effectively fill the gap in related fields, promote the inheritance of finetraditional Chinese culture, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign cultures, and help spread Chinese tea culture globally.


At the launch ceremony, the translatedworkwas also donated to the Shanghai Library as a part of the latter’s collection. Yang Chunhuaaccepted the donation on behalf ofShanghai Library. QiuGuixi, the translator of The Classic of Tea and the director of the School of Open Education of SUIBE, shared his thoughts and feelings in the course of translating The Classic of Tea.
