On April 10th, the Summary and Exchange Meeting on the “Proposal for WTO Reform” Essay Contest and the Seminar on “WTO Reform and Innovation” were held at the Gubei Campus of SUIBE. Han Yong, Director of the WTO Affairs Department at the Ministry of Commerce, Hong Xiaodong, former Director of the WTO Affairs Department and Director of China WTO Research Association, Wang Rongming, President of SUIBE, Zhang Yiguo, Vice Chairman of the University Counciland Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission, along with over 100 experts, scholars, and student representatives from more than ten universities and research institutions including Peking University, Renmin University of China, and Fudan University, engaged in exchanges and discussions both online and offline.
WangRongming delivered a speech on behalf of SUIBE. He extended a warm welcome to the attendees online and offline, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Department of WTO Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce, relevantuniversities, and academic experts who have long supported the development of SUIBE. He noted that the university has a profound historical connection with the WTO, having made significant contributions to China’s accession to the GATT and the WTO, as well as the country's participation in global economic governance today. The university has alwaysbeen concerned with the developmentof the multilateral trade system and actively contributes to China’s collaboration with the WTO. Lastly, he congratulated the students and faculty who had won awards in the “Proposal for WTO Reform” essay contest and encouraged them to keep exploring in the study and practical exploration of WTO reforms, thereby providing strong support for China’s in-depth involvement in global economic governance.

Han Yongcongratulated the winners and hoped that SUIBE would continue to play its role as a WTO Chair institution. He advocated for the institutionalization of the essay contest, emphasizing its regular and sustained conduct to bolster intellectual support for China’s active participation in WTO reforms.
Experts and scholars attending the seminar shared their academic views and research findings on three major themes: “Prospects for WTO Mechanism Reform,” “Development Direction of WTO E-commerce and Cross-border Data Flow Negotiations,” and “Latest Developments in WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism and Subsidy Rules.”
