On the afternoon of April 2ed, 2024, the third session of the “Bowen Lecture Hall” for the year took place in Conference Room 213 of the Information Building, Songjiang Campus, aimed at enhancing students’ intercultural competence and international communication capabilities. WangXiaohui, the Party Secretary and Chief Editor of China Internet Information Center, was invited to deliver a lecture titled “Translation and Communication of Fine Traditional Chinese Culture.” The lecture was chaired by Wen Jianping, Dean of the School of Languages.
Jiang Xiuzhen, Vice president of SUIBE issued the certificate of off-campus supervisor to Wang Xiaohui, who was also invited as the expert consultant by Yiwenshe, an association of news translation for MTI students. Jiang Xiuzhen, Wang Xiaohui and all participants took a photo together.
Wang emphasized that fine traditional Chinese culture encapsulates quintessential Chinese narratives, serving as a spiritual symbol of the Chinese nation and a crucial carrier showcasing the characteristics of Chinese civilization. Wang stressed greater efforts to construct China’s own discourse and narrative, better tell Chinese stories and strive to shape admirable, amicableand respectable image of China. Theseeffortsarekey to attracting the attention and recognition of overseas audiences, thereby enhancing China’s soft power and international influence. Wang Xiaohui had free communication with teachers and students in Q&A session. Heanswered questions about the selection of materials for international communication, the position of public media in international communication and other questions on translation practice. Teachers and students expressed that they learned much from the lecture.
