Professor Zhou Hanmin Gives Report on “World Expo and Urban Civilization” at SUIBE


Professor Zhou Hanmin, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, president of the Shanghai Institute of Socialism and president of the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, gave a report entitled World Expo and Urban Civilization to faculty and students of SUIBE on June 7th.


 

As one who experienced the bidding, preparation, and hosting of the World Expo, Zhou Hanmin shared stories behind the Shanghai World Expo, focusing on Shanghai's decade-long preparation for the event and the missions of the event to promote people-centeredness, cultural diversity, technological innovation, win-win cooperation, and future development.


 

with regard to how Shanghai should advance its cultural and ethical progress, Zhou pointed out that it is necessary for the city to thoroughly implement the concept of a city of the people, by the people and for the people and stay committed to the theme of “Better City, Better Life”, so as to build Shanghai into a more international and beautiful city. He emphasized that science-based planning is indispensable for urban construction, and high-quality development cannot be achieved without modernized governance. Everyone in the city should work hard to build a better Shanghai, he added.
