SUIBE Holds Second Faculty Congress and Second Meeting of Trade Union Congress

On March 4th, SUIBE held the Second Faculty Congress and the Second Meeting of the Trade Union Congress at its Songjiang Campus. The congress was attended by Yin Yao, Chairman of the University Council of SUIBE, Wang Rongming, SUIBE president, Qi Ming, Vice Chairman of the University Council of SUIBE and SUIBE vice president, Wu Yi, Vice Chairman of the University Council of SUIBE and Chairman of SUIBE Trade Union, Xu Yonglin, SUIBE vice president, and105 delegates of SUIBE’s Faculty Council and Trade Union Council. Heads of various schools and departments as well as primary-level organizations of democratic parties were also invited to the congress. The congress was presided over by Wu Yi.

At 9:30 a.m., the first plenary session of the congress was opened with the majestic national anthem of China. Wang Rongming made a report on the University’s administrative work to the congress entitled “Forging Ahead with Fighting Spirit to Build SUIBE into a World-renowned and Domestically First-class University of Finance with Distinctive Features and High Standards”. The report reviewed and summarized the development of the university in 2022, put forward development plans and key tasks of the university in 2023, and specified the main perspectives on and approaches to protecting the rights and interests of SUIBE faculty and students.

Qi Ming made an explanation on a draft version of the Amendment to the Charter of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics. He expounded the basis of the amendment as well as the solicitation of opinions, and comprehensively introduced the process of how the charter was revised.

Wu Yi made the annual work report of the second Trade Union committee titled Gathering Strength for Development and Innovating Service to Improve Performance”. The report comprehensively reviewed the achievements of the Trade Union in 2022 and made an outlook on the work of the Trade Union in 2023.

Xu Yonglin made a report on the financial work of SUIBE and Chen Jialin, chairman of the second faculty motions committee of SUIBE, gave a report on the work of the motions.

Yin Yao delivered a closing speech at the congress. He stressed that it is necessary to raise political stance to look at the overall situation and plan for the big picture, encouraging the faculty to fully implement the spirit of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress, seize opportunities from Shanghai’s development, and strengthen confidence in the progress of school running. He said the faculty should be courageous to take on responsibilities and excel in work, focus on the key tasks and seek breakthroughs. He requested the faculty to aim at the development goals of SUIBE and strive for brighter prospects of it. SUIBE faculty should pool strength from solidarity to consolidate the foundation of the university. The trade union organizations of schools should effectively protect the rights and interests of faculty and staff, and continuously enhance their sense of belonging and happiness.
