Introduction to the Department of Finance

The program of finance was established in 1996 and was approved to be a featured program in the fourth batch by the Ministry of Education. In 2009, it gained dual accreditation in the course and as the partner of the CFA Institute. In 2020, it was successfully selected as a candidate sponsored to be a nationally top-rated program.

The Department aims to cultivate financial talent with systematic knowledge of financial theory, proficient skills in domestic and international financial affairs, profound humanistic and patriotic quality, strong question consciousness and innovative spirit, and a broad global vision. The Department offers four undergraduate concentrations: Finance (International Banking), Finance (China-Canada Cooperation), Finance (English-only), and Finance (Digital Finance Experimental Class).


Academic Research

The Department has achieved noticeable results in academic research. It has been approved for 4 National Social Science Foundation projects, 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 4 projects of the Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education, and over 20 Shanghai Social Science Planning Projects and Shanghai Municipal Government Decision-making Consulting Research Projects. More than 20 advisory reports for internal reference have been approved by leaders at the national, provincial, and ministerial levels. It also achieved over 10 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. Our faculty published 50 academic papers in authoritative journals and leading international journals such as Economic Research Journal, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Management World, and Studies of International Finance. They published over 10 academic monographs, including The Study on the Optimization of Chinese Financial Market Structures, and A Study on the Controlling Technology of RMB Exchange Rates. They authored 8 textbooks on International Finance, Money, and Banking. In addition, we have established research institutions such as the Global Financial Governance Research Center, American Financial Research Center, and Financial Development Research Center, which provide essential support for promoting teaching quality through academic research.


Faculty

There are 25 full-time faculty members in the Department, including 6 full professors, 11 associate professors, and 8 lecturers, 19 of whom are master’s supervisors, and 95% have obtained their doctoral degrees. We boast an excellent faculty team in teaching and research. Many members won prizes in teaching competitions at the SUIBE and the Shanghai Municipal levels, published more than 20 papers on teaching methods and results, and received over 10 teaching and research awards at or above provincial and ministerial levels. The team has gained fruitful results in course construction, with 2 Shanghai Municipal-level first-class undergraduate courses, including International Finance and International Financial Management (English), 4 key courses approved by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, including International Finance, International Financial Management (English), and Money and Banking, and 5 key courses at the SUIBE level, including Money and Banking, Operation and Management of Commercial Bank, and Securities Investment Analysis. Focusing on practical teaching, the Department offers a series of courses on financial practices jointly with the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the Shanghai Securities Association, and companies such as Topsperity Securities and Fullgoal Fund. We also regularly invite industry experts to hold specific lectures or give online lessons, significantly broadening students’ horizons.
