Introduction of Institute for International Economic and Trade Innovation and Governance

The Institute for International Economic and Trade Innovation and Governance (hereinafter shortened as “the institute”)is a think tank integrating the functions of policy consultation, academic research, talent incubation, and management services. It is a management and service institute for all SUIBE think tanks as well as a research and exchange platform focusing on international business and economic issues.

Based on the academic advantages of SUIBE, the institute dovetails with decision-making needs, targeting major issues to optimize a forward-looking layout. With support from academic research, it focuses on making policy advice for red-hot issues to build itself into a new high-end Chinese-style think tank platform with the features of “being new and inter-disciplinary, and focusing on cross-disciplinary research to promote innovation and high yield”. Its main tasks are to conduct research on both major national strategies and issues of the economic and social development of Shanghai, and to carry out prospective studies on cutting-edge issues and focused topics related to the evolution of international business and economy, new trends in economic globalization, adjustments in the global industrial chain, trade in services, digital trade, green trade, multilateral regional economic and trade cooperation, economic and trade relations of major countries, the Belt and Road Initiative, and pilot free trade zones.

We will make great efforts to promote the construction of new high-end think tanks with distinctive features, accelerate the cultivation and construction of SUIBE’s specialized and sophisticated think tanks in several fields, and strive to develop them into key think tanks of Shanghai and national high-end ones. It is hoped that, with reciprocal interactions between the achievements of high-level academic results and high-quality decision-making consultation, the institute, as a university think tank, will give full play to its functions in strategy research, policy advice, talent cultivation, the guidance of public opinion, and public diplomacy.
