On September 26th, SUIBE held an online academic conference to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan under the theme of Review and Prospects of China-Japan Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Cheng Yonghua, former ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Japan and executive vice president of the China-Japan Friendship Association, Yang Bojiang, director of the Institute of Japanese Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and executive vice president of Chinese Association for Japanese Studies, and Hu Lingyuan, director of the Center for Japanese Studies of Fudan University and president of the Shanghai Association for Japanese Studies delivered speeches at the conference.
Zhou Hanmin, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, vice chairman of the Shanghai CPPCC (the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) and an outstanding alumnus of SUIBE, delivered a keynote speech at the conference. He said that the vision, wisdom and courage shown by the leaders of China and Japanin their decision to normalize diplomatic relations between China and Japan fifty years agowere admirable. He saidthe two countries should strengthen cooperation within the framework ofRegional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and steer its development, and they should also further coordinate with each other and join hands in the major reform of the World Trade Organization. Besides, they should work to promote their bilateral economic and trade cooperation to a new historical stage within the framework of Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Seven renowned economistsand scholars from China and Japan gave keynote reportson Sino-Japanese economic cooperation and bilateral economic and trade relations. Professor Chen Zilei, vice president of the National Japan Economic Association and director of the Japan Economic Research Center of SUIBE summarized the conference.
