SUIBE Holds Video Preparatory Conference for WTO E-commerce Negotiation Seminar Backed by APEC


On Feb. 2, a video preparatory conference for WTO e-commerce negotiation seminar backed by APEC, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by SUIBE, was held both online and at the Gubei campus of SUIBE.

Nearly 80 scholars and representatives from 16 APEC economies such as America, Japan and Singapore, International organizations including the WTO and the OECD, as well as relevant departments such as theOffice of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, attended the conference, making it the largest APEC seminar in recent years regarding the number of attendants.

Mr. Yin Yao, Secretary of the CPC SUIBE committee, Mr.Chen Ning, Second-level Inspector(Deputy Director-level) of the Department of International Economic and Trade Relations, Ministry of Commerce, Ms. Zhou Lan, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Ms. Alison Hamilton, Deputy Representative of the Permanent Mission of New Zealand to the WTO, delivered speeches atthe opening ceremony.




The preparatory conference consisted of two parts. The first onediscussed issues such as WTO e-commerce negotiations amid Covid-19, whilein the second unit, Digital Trade Research Institute of SUIBE delivered the analysisresults of the previous questionnaire survey on key issues of WTO e-commerce negotiations.




Apart from the online video preparatory conference, the seminar will also includea formal meeting scheduled to be held both online and offline this month.
