SUIBE Student Won First Prize in the 16th “21st Century China-Australia Cup” National English Contest for University Students

On December 15, Zhang Shiqi, a Business English major from SUIBE School of Language, was awarded the First Prize in the 16th China Daily “21st Century China-Australia Cup” National English Contest for University Students.

The completion, held in Jiading campus of Shanghai University, drew students from 27 universities in the country including Beijing Foreign Studies University, Xi’an International Studies University, and Fudan University. It fell into three parts, a prepared speech titled “Australia in My Eyes”, an impromptu speech, and a quiz on Australia. Zhang Shiqi, who was mentored by Associate Professor Liu Minhua for over a month, shone throughout the contest and went on to win the First Prize.

After the conclusion of the contest, Mr. Mark Seeley, Vice President of Shanghai High School International Division, made comments on the contestants, pointing out in particular that Zhang’s speech was vivid, imaginative and creative. Ms. Nie Qing, special guest at the contest and Vice President of Shanghai University, came up to Zhang and offer her personal congratulations.
