SUIBE-cosponsored Confucius Institute Zagreb Hosts First-ever Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition in Dubrovnik

Under the auspices of Confucius Institute Zagreb, which is jointlysponsored by SUIBE and the University of Zagreb, the first-everChinese Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition was officially openedon Thursday 19 May in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art inDubrovnik, a historic city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site inCroatia. The co-directors of CI Zagreb, the curator of the Museum,and the two Chinese artists who works were on show deliveredopening remarks at the opening ceremony, which was attended by over100 people from all circles of life.

During the period of exhibition, Chinese calligrapher Zhang Qieyiran a workshop on Chinese calligraphy to local high schoolstudents, where everyone could try Chinese calligraphy, and Chinesepainter Gao Longzhang gave a public lecture on the origin andstyles of Chinese painting at the art gallery. The three-day eventdrew visitors from around the country. The visitors expressed thehope that the exhibition would help local people better appreciateChinese calligraphy and painting, promote mutual understanding, andfoster friendship between the two countries.
The exhibition is one of a series of events planned by CI Zagrebfor the Chinese Culture Month.
