At the invitation of International Relations Department at theSchool of Law, Mr. Guo Chongli, former Chinese Ambassador to Kenyaand Vice Chair of China Foundation for International Studies,visited SUIBE and delivered a lecture on “Hot Issues in CurrentInternational Relations” on the morning of May 13.
SUIBE Vice President Xu Ronglin presided at the seminar, gave hiswelcoming remarks, and presented Mr. Guo with a certificate ofGuest Professor and Senior Advisor of International Studies. VicePresident Xu also gave a brief introduction to Mr. Guo. Mr. Guo isa veteran Chinese diplomat, serving variously as DeputyDirector-General of Press and Media Service at the ForeignMinistry, Editor-in-Chief at the World Affairs Press, Ambassador toJamaica, Permanent Representative at the International SeabedAuthority, Ambassador to Kenya, Permanent Representative at theUnited Nations Environment Program, and Permanent Representative atthe United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT). Herecently led a Chinese Delegation to the Third Indian OceanDialogue hosted by the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
Stressing that peace and development were still the theme in thecurrent world and that the relationship between China and othermajor powers was still based on cooperation and competition, Mr.Guo discussed in details China’s diplomacy centering on territorialdisputes in the South China Sea, North Korea nuclear crisis, andthe Ukraine issues.
Mr. Guo also took questions from the students such as publicdiplomacy and the role of media in diplomacy.
