SUIBE-cosponsored Confucius Institute Zagreb Featured in International Book and Education Fairs in Croatia

To promote Chinese culture, Confucius Institute Zagreb (CI Zagreb),which is jointly run by SUIBE and the University of Zagreb, wasrecently featured respectively in the 38th International Book Fairand International Education Fair in Croatia.

overing a floor area of 10,000 square meters, the 6-dayInternational Book Fair opened on 10 November at the ConventionalCenter in Zagreb, capital of Croatia, which drew 266 publishersfrom home and other countries such as Serbia, Slovenia andBosnia-Herzegovina. The background of the booth for CI Zagreb was alarge picture of a flying dragon, highlighting the theme of itsparticipation in the event, namely, the dragon symbolizes power,power is knowledge, and reading is climbing the ladder ofknowledge. With a variety of interesting activities such as Chinesecalligraphy, Chinese chess, the Game of Go (Weiqi), and riddles,the CI Zagreb booth attracted a large number of visitors. Mr.Berislav Šipuš, Croatian Minister of Culture, together with thechair of the organizing committee of the book fair, inspected theCI Zagreb booth and talked with CI staff there. China NationalPublications Import and Export (Group) Corporation took part in thebook fair for the first time and donated 100 books to CI Zagreb.Two sides also agreed to cooperate more closely in the future topromote cultural exchanges between China and Croatia.

 

The 3-day International Education Exhibition beginning November 12was held at the Students Center at the University of Zagreb.Several dozens of universities from the country and abroadparticipated in the exhibition. This is the fourth time that CIZagreb was present at the exhibition. The booth of CI Zagreb wasdecorated with Chinese lanterns and photos of places of historicinterest in China. Many pamphlets, Chinese-language textbooks andbooks on Chinese culture were on exhibition at the fair. Rector ofthe University of Zagreb Damir Boras and Vice Rector MiljenkoŠimpraga came to CI Zagreb booth and talked with CI volunteerteachers there, who presented the two distinguished guests with acard with their name written in Chinese. Both leaders spoke highlyof the achievements made by CI Zagreb over the past three years infostering Croatia-China educational and cultural exchanges, wishingall the best for the future of CI Zagreb.
