On the morning of November 5, President Sun Haiming met with theRomanian delegation led by Mr. Emil Draghici, President of theAssociation of Communes of Romania. Mr. Qin Boming, SecretaryGeneral of China International Friendship Cities Association, Mr.Li Chunping, Director of the European and African Affairs Divisionof the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai, Prof. Qiu Guixi, Dean ofthe School of International Studies, Mr. Yan Dalong, Director ofthe Division of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Guo Xuetang, Deputy Deanof the School of Law and Director of the Institute of InternationalStrategy and Policy Analysis, and Dr. Zhang Lin, Centre for Centraland Eastern Europe Studies (CCEES) were also present at themeeting.
President Sun introduced SUIBE’s engagement in internationalcooperation with an emphasis on cooperation with central andeastern European countries (CEEC). He told the delegation thatSUIBE had established three Confucius Institutes with universitiesin Croatia, Slovenia and Slovakia. He highlighted the role ofstudent exchanges in deepening friendship between China and Romaniaand expressed the wish to tap into the high potential ofcooperation between SUIBE and Romanian universities in forms ofresearch collaboration in CEEC studies, summer school and jointprograms.
Mr. Draghici expressed his pleasure of visiting SUIBE andemphasized that exchanges with the Chinese People’s Association forFriendship with Foreign Countries, academic exchanges and economicexchanges would determine the sustainability and depth of thefuture cooperation between the two countries. He then invited theacademic member of the delegation, Vice Rector Salisteanu tointroduce the Valahia University of Targoviste.
The Association of Communes of Romania is committed tostrengthening the connections between governments at city andtownship level and safeguarding their shared interests. The membersof the delegation come from different cities in Romania. The visitshowcased their willingness to work with the local governments ofChina.
