On the afternoon of 15 June, Mitja Bervar, President of Slovenia’supper house National Council came to SUIBE Songjiang campus andparticipated in an informal round-table discussion, kicking off hisofficial tour of China.
SUIBE President Sun Haimin, Vice President Nie Qin, former Chinesedirectors of SUIBE-cosponsored Confucius Institute at theUniversity of Ljubljana (CI Ljubljana), scholars at the SUIBECenter of Central and Eastern European Studies, Slovenian studentscurrently studying at SUIBE, and SUIBE students back from exchangeprograms in Slovenia participated in the discussion. Also presentwere Marija Adanja, Slovenian Ambassador to China, Drago Napotnik,Consul of the Consulate General of Slovenia in Shanghai, HuangYouyi, member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, NationalCommittee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC), Liu Xiaoping, deputy director of Foreign Affairs Bureau,General Office of the CPPCC National Committee, Qi Quansheng,deputy secretary-general of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, and WangJunhui, director of Foreign Affairs Bureau, General Office of theCPPCC Shanghai Committee.
During the talks, the two sides exchanged opinions on topics suchas the development of CI Ljubljana, cooperation between businessschools in the two countries, and China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
The University of Ljubljana in Slovenia is one of SUIBE’s mostimportant partners in the world with huge potentials for futurecooperation. In 2009, the two universities signed an agreement toset up a CI in Slovenia, which was formally launched in May 2010.CI Ljubljana has played a key part in promoting the Chineselanguage and culture and deepening China-Slovenia cooperation ineducation. On the basis of CI Ljubljana, SUIBE is committed tofurther and closer cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe.
