SUIBE President Sun Haimin was delighted to welcome Dr. Robert J.Jones, President of the State University of New York (SUNY) atAlbany, and his delegation to the Songjiang campus on the afternoonof 4 June 2014. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academiccooperation was signed between the sides.
During the talks, President Sun briefed the American guests on thelatest developments of SUIBE, particularly the progress made ininternational academic partnership, saying that 30% of its studentswould be expected to have study-abroad experience within the nextfive years to help provide them with international vision and toadapt to economic globalization. Appreciative of SUIBE efforts ininternational education, President Jones noted that the Universityat Albany was striving to build a better mechanism for cooperationbetween the two sides. The two presidents later signed a Memorandumof Understanding on academic cooperation, which detailed the intentof cooperation on reciprocal exchange programs for staff andstudents, the exchange of academic resources, and the awarding ofdouble degrees, thus ushering in a new era in the cooperationbetween the two universities.
Founded in 1844 as a teachers’ college, the State University of NewYork at Albany has its main campus located in Albany, the state’scapital. With some of the top-ranking majors in the United Statesand the world, the University offers 118 undergraduate degreeprograms and 138 graduate degree programs, and enrolls more than16,000 students from over 100 countries.
Vice President Nie Qing and Director of Foreign Affairs Xu Dongfengwere also present during the talks.
