Dean of Queensland University Law School Visits SUIBE

On 23 October 2013, Professor Sarah Derrington, Dean of the TCBeirne School of Law, the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia,came to visit SUIBE School of Law. Professor Ni Shoubing, DeputyDean of SUIBE School of Law, and Associate Professor Nu Ming metwith Professor Derrington, discussing issues such as teachervisits, joint programs and academic collaboration.

 

During the meeting, Professor Derrington noted the achievementsmade in the academic cooperation between the two sides over theyears, speaking highly of visiting SUIBE professors and students inUQ’s TC Beirne School of Law. Both sides expressed satisfactionwith the current cooperation in the undergraduate and master’sprograms, and decided to explore possible cooperation in Doctor ofJuridical Science (SJD) and Juris Doctor (JD) programs in thefuture. Since an agreement on cooperation between SUIBE Law Schooland the TC Beirne School of Law was signed in 2006, 25 SUIBE lawstudents have gone to the TC Beirne School of Law to study for theMaster of Laws (LLM) degree, with 21 students having completedtheir study so far and one student awarded UQ scholarship. OneSUIBE academic staff has been sent to the TC Beirne School of Lawas a Visiting Professor.

 

During her visit, Professor Derrington also gave a lecture on“Comité Maritime International (CMI): Current Issues” and answeredquestions from the SUIBE law students.
