On 7 October 2013, the plaque unveiling ceremony was held in TrnovoPrimary School for Confucius Classroom, the second of its kindestablished by the Confucius Institute at the University ofLjubljana (CI Ljubljana), which operates in partnership with theShanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE)in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
More than 200 people attended the ceremony, including Mr. ZhangXianyi, Chinese Ambassador to Slovenia, and his wife, Professor NieQing, Assistant to the President of SUIBE, Professor Wang Guanglin,Dean of SUIBE Language School, Professor Ye Rong, Director ofTeaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Program at SUIBE, Dr. DušanMramor, former dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Universityof Ljubljana and former Chairman of the Board for CI Ljubljana, Ms.Danijela Voljč, Director of CI Ljubljana on the Slovenian side, Mr.Chen Jian, Director of CI Ljubljana on the Chinese side, ProfessorMitja Saje, sinologist at the University of Ljubljana, and Dr.Matevž Raškovič, member of the Board for CI Ljubljana.
Ms. Irena Kokovnik, Principal of Trnovo Primary School, gave aspeech of welcome at the ceremony. She said, “I am very pleased andexcited to see CI Ljubljana to set up a Confucius Classroom inTrnovo, a school offering 9 years of primary education. Trnovo isthe first primary school in Slovenia to offer Chinese courses andto integrate Chinese teaching in its curriculum. Together withforeign languages such as English and German, Chinese is anelective course for students to learn Chinese language andculture.”
The first Confucius Classroom in Slovenia was opened in II HighSchool Maribor in May this year.
