Dr. Malcolm McVicar, former Vice Chancellor and the incumbent GroupChief Executive Officer of the University of Central Lancashire(UClan) was recently awarded with the Magnolia Award by theShanghai Municipal Government. UClan is one of the partneruniversities of the Shanghai University of International Businessand Economics (SUIBE).
The Magnolia Award was set up by the Shanghai municipality in 1989to recognize the contribution made by outstanding internationalindividuals to Shanghai’s exchanges with foreign countries and tothe city’s development.
The nomination was made by SUIBE and reviewed by the Shanghaigovernment experts committee. The long-standing SUIBE-UCLan linkgoes back to 1998 since when joint teaching efforts have been madeat associate, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Many studentshave benefited from the collaboration and found good jobs aftergraduation. They are making outstanding contributions to thedevelopment of Shanghai in various fields. The fruitful results ofthe joint programs are highly recognized by both sides.
In an interview with China Daily after the presentation ceremony,Dr. McVicar highlighted the importance of China-UK cooperation tothe cultural exchanges between and talent development of the twocountries.
