In October, student enrollment and teaching efforts are under wayat the Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb (hereinafterreferred to as “the CI”). By press time, the CI has operated sixclasses teaching 90 students Chinese at elementary level. MatijaGubec, the sole international school run by the CI also offersChinese teaching programs and has attracted 50 students at grade 5to 8.
Students at the CI include teaching faculties and mid-level leadersfrom the University of Zagreb, and people from various communities,who are very interested in the Chinese language and culture. Theyare devoted to learning Chinese and the Chinese society with a viewto promoting the friendship and exchanges between China andCroatia.
To further popularize the Chinese language and culture, the CI isgoing to hold, in this semester, a series of events celebrating theestablishment of the diplomatic relations between China andCroatia, such as the Chinese Photography Exhibition, andChina-Croatia business forum. It will also organize classesteaching Chinese chess, Chinese folk dance, Taiji fans, Chinesecooking, etc.
