The SIFE China National Competition was held on June 5 and 6, 2012at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. SIFT team wasamong the 60 SIFE China Regional Champions. It is the 8th year in arow for SIFT to compete in the SIFE China National Competition.After fierce competition in the presentation and Q&A sessions,SIFT team finally won the 1st Prize with its Golden Values projectand was listed as the national Top 4.
The 2012 SIFE China National Competition featured over 2000participants from Chinese universities and more than 300 judgesfrom sponsors such as Unilever, PepsiCo, BP, Johnson&Johnson,Walmart, Chow Tai Fook, FedEx, CreditEase and Swire Beverages. SIFEteams offer an entrepreneurial approach and apply business conceptsto the sustainable development of economy, society and environment.
About Gold Values
SIFT team runs the Golden Values project based on the fact that theincineration of straws causes environmental pollution. Along withthe joyful harvest also comes the problem of how to properly dealwith the straws. Inappropriate treatment of straws will not onlyhazard the rural environment, but also breeds safety concerns.Golden Values helps impoverished famers produce and sellhandicrafts made of straws so as to improve their financial statusby leveraging resources provided by the local government andrelevant enterprises.
SIFT team also gave instructions to the rural residents living inthe suburb areas of Shanghai on how to turn straws into fertilizersfor growing mushrooms. Working in the form of co-operative, localfarmers were able to receive specific subsidies from the governmentand win extra income from the mushrooms growing business.
