On 28 October, Mr. Russell R. Miller, co-founder of theinternational nonprofit organization Spirit of Enterprise (SOE) andSOE China Youth Entrepreneurship Program as well as judge of SIFEChina National Competition, presented a lecture titled “TheExcitement of Starting Your Own Business – An Entrepreneur Tells UsHow to and How Not to” to SIFT students at Room 503 in theInformation Building at Songjiang campus. Associate Professor TangPei, module leader of English for International BusinessEnterprise, presided at the lecture. Mr. Tang Xusheng, Director ofSIFT Student Entrepreneurship Center, teachers and students of themodule, SIFT SIFE team members as well as students from SIFT andother universities attended the lecture.
During the lecture, Mr. Miller talked about the excitement and thechallenges of starting a new business by sharing his personalexperience of starting up his own businesses first in the UnitedStates and then in countries such as China, Singapore and Vietnam,and by offering insightful advice on how to identify businessopportunities, make the first bold step and continue one’s effortsuntil business success. At the end of his lecture, Mr. Miller tookquestions from the students on business start-up.
