SIFT Professor Visits WIPO Officials

From June 22nd to 24th, 2011, Prof. Zhang Lei, WCP (WTO ChairsProgramme) holder and Dean of the School of WTO Research andEducation (WTO School), visited some WIPO (World IntellectualProperty) officials for cooperation details between the WTO Schooland WIPO.

 

During the meeting, Gao Hang, Director of the Copyright DevelopmentService Division, expressed their readiness to work with SIFT onthe establishment of IP (TRIPS) academic network and students’study tour and internship programs. The Copyright DevelopmentService Division has sent the first batch of books as gifts toSIFT. Prof. Zhang expressed his gratitude and wish that WIPO willcontinue to provide generous support for the WTO School.

 

Guriqbal S. Jaiya, Director of the Small and Medium-SizedEnterprises (SMEs) Division said that they would offer free IPtraining programs to SIFT and appoint SIFT professors as anonymousreviewers and translators for their articles and monographs. Healso wished to cooperate with SIFT in holding SMEs forums andconducting researches on the IP issues of SMEs.

 

Projects initiated by the Committee on Development and IntellectualProperty (CDIP) of WIPO are part of WIPO’s major focus in therecent three years. Prof. Carsten Fink, Chief Economist, EconomicStudies, Statistics and Analysis Division of WIPO, expressed onmany occasions his willingness to carry out with Prof. Zhang ajoint research project related to China. Both sides agreed tocontinue to strengthen communication and develop new ways ofcooperation, so as to improve SIFT’s researches on the economicanalysis of IP.

 

Prof. Zhang and Ms. Martha Chikowore who is in charge of theteaching and training programs of the WIPO Worldwide Academyexchanged views on cooperation in post-graduate program.
