On June 26, Professor Zhu Lixing, a Changjiang Scholar, was appointed a special guest professor of SUIBE. President Zhu Guohong, Vice President Chen Jie, and teachers and students from the School of Statistics and Information attended the appointment ceremony.
At the ceremony, Vice President Chen read the appointment decision by SUIBE, and President Zhu presented the Letter of Appointment to Professor Zhu. After accepting the appointment, Professor Zhu expressed thanks to the leadership of the university, the Plateau Discipline of Applied Economics, and the School of Statistics and Information. Before closing the ceremony, President Zhu delivered a speech, extending gratitude to Professor Zhu for accepting the invitation to serve as a special guest professor at SUIBE. Pointing out that a great opportunity of development awaited statistics, President Zhu spoke highly of what had been achieved in recent years at the School of Statistics and Information and set new goals for its development and reform.
A world-renowned statistician, Professor Zhu obtained his doctorate from the Institute of Systems Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990, received research grants from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1997, and wonthe Humboldt Research Award of Germany in 2000, becoming, till today, the first and only winnerfrom Asia in Statistics to receive the prestigious German award. Professor Zhu was awarded Changjiang Chair Professorship by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2004, and won the State Natural Science Award (Class II) in 2013. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the Institute of Mathematical Statistics(IMS) and an elected member of International Statistical Institute (ISI).
